What is the Essential Question that drives my work?
From being a high school student during a global pandemic and a worldwide lockdown I have learned that it is sometimes difficult to find love in a world that seems so full of hate. When creating the idea that drives my work this year, I wanted to choose something that is important not just to me, but something that can work as a reminder to others concerning the beauty of life and the love that we find in it. My essential question is how do we find love in a world of turmoil and lack of hope?
Describe how your sustained investigation shows evidence of practice, experimentation, and revision guided by your question(s) or inquiry. Site your work to give examples. Identify which artworks show practice of a specific technique or process you wanted to master. Mixed media is my strength (Examples #4, 5, 6). I start by thinking about the concept I wish to express, then look up reference photos; then create thumbnails in my sketchbook. Finally I compose the full size draft. Sometimes I transfer the rough draft onto good paper using the lightbox. Other times, the rough draft becomes the final draft.
Which artworks are examples of experimentation? What was the purpose of this experimentation? #3 is an example of experimentation with stippling to create contrast in the drawing. #9 shows experimentation with watercolor and colored pencil, combined. #10 is an example of my exploration of the medium and process of oil painting.
Identify which artworks show revision as a result of being guided by your questions, experimentation, and/or practice? If you have none, then which ones do you plan to experiment with or revise to further your practice, expression of meaning concerning your theme? #4 was originally just a drawing of the talking skulls. I improved the drawing by adding a background and color. On #5 I am going to smooth the atmosphere.
